The style of Harriette Joffe's paintings are curvilinear, expressionistic, musical, dance, and theater. She applies paint in a creamy, sensual manner in transparent layers to get rich tones. There is pentimento, with the drying of colors underneath that still show through, like sketches of life with the past showing through the present, traces of what came before. Her work is Classically drawn and greatly influenced by the Renaissance and through close and personal connections with the artists of the New York Abstract Expressionist School.
The subjects of her paintings are autobiographical, dance, Song of Songs, Jacob and the Angel, Jewish, tango, music, Cuban, Latin, spirituality, past lives, mythical energy, Canyon de Chelle, Mayan mythology, nature, the condition of man, relationships with animals including horses, protagonists, and women of strength.
